Moss on the tires
July 8, 2009
It's been a long time since the last update of this site, and it's been a long time between rides. I'll use the excuse of bad weather, everyone else is using it.
It really has been a wet spring and, so far, a wet summer too. There has not been one full day of sunshine in weeks. We've had rain, fog or drizzle at least once every day. There's moss growing on my tires.
Needless to say, the trails are a mess, and riding on them will just ruin them. In this area, the geography is either rock or mud. Now, the rain hasn't been enough to dissolve the rocks, but it certainly has made anything other than rock very soupy, soft and sloppy.
Unfortunately, the all-terrain vehicle crowd are not so discouraged. Their use of these wet trails has not been helpful. I'll save that for another article (or rant).
But although time on the bike has suffered, the hiking has been pleasant. I can't recall the woods being so verdent and lush, and I've seen varieties of fungi growing that I've never seen before.
I wonder if they make pedals for webbed feet . . .

What type of dope should you use to improve your ride? Here in these woods, we have only one kind.

It's not been a good winter for riding. Too cold. Too much slush. Too busy. Too many excuses.

The vernal equinox is here, but spring is not. How does this seasonal milestone compare with others on the bikers calendar?
